We knew it would happen. Everyone warned us it would happen. Still  we were surprised and annoyed. In our second week in Portugal, we were both hit hard with cold-flu symptoms. (Resfriado – Gripe.)  You work extra hard running on high adrenaline for weeks to accomplish the move. Then you arrive and you let your defenses down and Bam – it hits you!

] Gorgeous skies today with clouds that are rare here promising a good week ahead!

We spent this last week seeing yet more apartments with yet more agents all the while keeping tissues handy. It was exhausting. We had our first rainy days at the same time. Saturday I spent a very rare whole day in bed. But, this too shall pass. Today, the sun is out and we are both feeling “over the hump.”

Friday we submitted an offer on an apartment. We have no idea if it will go anywhere. We have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to meet again at the real estate office to hear how the sellers responded. The Portuguese like to do everything face to face. Unlike the way we did it in the US, there is no back and forth negotiating via email or text or phone. If we do reach an agreement on the price, then we will all sit in a room together with the sellers, agents, and attorneys,  and hash out the actual contract details. Fingers crossed that we can come to a deal!

We've had some impressive sunrises with the marine layer sliding in and out.
One morning the fog was so thick this is all we could see from our balcony 10 stories up.
We have no idea what this drum band was marching about last Sunday.
Love the old sycamore trees in Vila do Conde's central park.
We went back to see this apartment for a second time.
It's all about the view...
What it takes to write an offer on a property here: Passports, NIF#s, and 400 Euros in cash (which you get back if no deal is reached.)

Surprised to find a Steak 'n Shake in downtown Porto...
...and impressed with the side of the building.
We climbed narrow stairs to an upper level of this restaurant for the great view of the street. We were to ring this giant bell to call our server...
...and the order comes up the dumb-waiter.
Pretty - everywhere. Especially at night.

Love the late afternoon & sunset light today - even if it does foretell rain tomorrow.
Even the train tracks are pretty in this light.
Lots of laundry getting done today. We've done 6 loads ourselves (which equals 2 US loads.)
