Forcing ourselves to go walking in the pouring rain.

The weather was crap all week due to a depression named Helena which blew through. Lots of rain and winds. We got out a couple times to see apartments and just to make ourselves get out. But, it was pretty nasty until Saturday when the skies finally cleared and the winds died down.

Our hunt for the right apartment continues. Right now we seem to be leaning towards Matosinhos just northwest of Porto about 20 minutes by metro. On the ocean. It is a bigger town with plenty to see and do. But, our focus could change.

When the sun broke out Saturday, we went to Foz do Douro. It is just west of Porto where the Douro river meets the sea. I wanted to see some waves. They were 3-4 meters high. I wish I’d seen them the day before when they were 12-15 meters high.

Saturday evening we went to a meet-up and met some other American and British expats. That was fun and educational

This wine bar was our shelter in the storm one afternoon.
The highlight of one rainy day was going to World Kitchen restaurant for Mexican day and having chili con carne with homemade tortillas.
Between appointments to see apartments in Matosinhos, we ducked into a cafe to escape the wind. Wayne had this glass of vinho which cost 1.00 euro. My cappucino was 1.30 euro.
Just a random shop window in Porto.

All the photos below are from our Saturday walk in Foz do Douro and then Matosinhos (which kind of run together.)  I found the sea to be fascinating.

Not sure how these tulips weathered the gale force winds.
Tons of joggers and dog-walkers.
