We continue to enjoy traveling from our home base in northern Portugal.  We can drive to the border with northern Spain in just over an hour on well-maintained and uncrowded highways. We have also enjoyed many slow drives on the smaller backroads all across Portugal and beyond.

We recently took a road trip with another couple for two weeks. We headed up to northern Spain seeing Léon and Bilbao first. Then we wandered across the coastline seeing small villages and towns such as Zarautz and San Sebastian. Thereafter, we made our way into France to spend time in the charming Saint-Émilion wine region. We worked our way back stopping to spend some time in the Rioja wine region of Spain where we stayed in Logroño and thoroughly savored the tapas culinary scene. Finally, we spent time in the very photogenic town of Salamanca, Spain before returning home to Matosinhos.
