Campaínha, Rio Tinto, & Levada - Metro Stops #5, #6, & #7

These three stops all service the city of Rio Tinto which has a population of over 50,000 and is located just east of Porto. The stops are quite close together.

Campaínha – Metro Stop #5

On the eastern outskirts of Rio Tinto is the rather blah station of Campaínha. That translates as bell/buzzer/door bell.  About the most exciting thing at this stop is that it has a small cafe next to it. And a field of grazing sheep next to that.  So, we walked into town towards the next two stops and mostly photographed residential architecture.

Good company name. Construction company remodeling the school.

Rio Tinto – Metro Stop #6

This stop is in front of the church and cemetery so that is mainly what I photographed here. Their attractive church was covered with a veil of lights for a festival and probably looks awesome at night. The cemetery, like others we’ve seen here, was very tidy with loads of fresh flowers.

A waterfall of miniature lights cover the whole front.
This is a tribute (homenagem) to a famous author who wrote about this area and died in Rio Tinto.
Use of fire is prohibited. Wildfires are a serious problem throughout Portugal in the summers.
Cemeteries are always interesting.
This group of graves of babies and young children was particularly sad.
Have a coffee or an ice cream across the street and contemplate your mortality...

Levada – Metro Stop #7

Located very close to the Rio Tinto stop, the reason for the Levada station might be for access to the large traditional shopping mall here. The sign claims it it just 200 meters away – straight uphill. The other draw at this stop is the large park/playground and walking path. Not sure who names these stations; Levada translates as “taken.”

Sign to the mall, Parque Nascente (Spring Park.) Big, traditional malls are still (mostly) thriving in Portugal. Perhaps because there is no Portugal Amazon - yet. We can order from Amazon UK, Spain, or Germany but there is rarely free delivery and no prime membership available.
"Water Closet" for dogs. Sure, they aren't going to poop any where else in the park...
"Portugal needs public transport worthy & safe." Sponsored by the socialist political party. Election time.
We do appreciate the convenience and efficiency of the metro & bus system in Porto as we bop all over for one low monthly fee.
