Estádio do Dragão & Campanhã - Metro Stops #11 & #12

Estádio do Dragão – Metro Stop #11

Working our way in from the far end of the F metro line, we have finally reached what most people would consider the edge of (old) Porto. Estádio do Dragão means “stadium of the dragon” – home of the FC Porto futebol (soccer) team and sports club. The landmark here is the stadium. Like most of Europe, this country takes futebol very seriously! This underground metro stop is between the stadium and the highways. There’s a large mall and a Marriott next door as well as some apartment complexes. We walked around the outside of the stadium (which takes longer than you think) and popped into the gift shop. Someday Wayne will return to take the paid tour and to see a match.

On the ceiling just inside near the gift shop.

Wherever you have heights, you always have idiots.
I was hot and this is how the endless stairs looked to me.
I think they can expect a fine in the mail...

Campanhã – Metro Stop #12

Campanhã is not to be confused with the stop Campaínha which is farther out on this line. Campanhã (translated as campaign) is a bustling stop. It connects the metro to one of two main train stations in Porto. We’ve used this station several times to head out of town. You can catch the sleek and comfortable alfa pendular trains here and be in Lisbon in 2 hours and 50 minutes. Or, you can take one of the many older trains that do the shorter “cattle car” runs with open seating (or standing.)

Classic old station. Classic stand-off between taxis and other drivers.
On day 3 of a strike of the truckers that deliver gasoline, it's disturbing to see what looks like a bus driver adding gas. Maybe water, instead?
When was the last time you used a pay phone?
