Fânzares - Metro Stop #1

Last stop on the F line east of Porto city. It took exactly an hour to ride here from our home stop of Brito Capelo.  After hearing it said hundreds of times, we still don’t know how to pronounce the name of this place properly. The way that the automatic metro announcement says it sounds nothing like it is spelled. I’d swear “she” is saying “Zanz-a-duece – which makes no sense…

We walked about 20 minutes east from the metro stop to get to the edge of the actual town of Fânzeres which has a population of about 20,000. The center of activity on our short visit was the church cemetery which was being cleaned up for a religious festival happening in two days.

Not sure if this old public laundry is still used.
Huge cemetery with both very old and very modern sections. Nearly every grave had beautiful fresh flowers and plants. There were lots of people scurrying about tending to them.
