Venda Nova, Carreira, & Baguim - Metro Stops #2, #3, & #4

Continuing down the F line from Fanzeres, the next 3 metro stations are all fairly close together and the track forms a half circle; so we grouped them together. These are also not the most exciting stops. This end of the line feels a bit “out there” and seems to be primarily apartments for people that commute into Porto for work. Yet, we saw something interesting at each of the stops.

Venda Nova – Metro Stop #2

Translated as “New Sale”, Venda Nova feels like the “new” might have been in the 1970’s. Right along the train line are bigger apartments. We noticed that many of these have a lot of missing tiles on their exteriors. Maybe one contractor did most of them (poorly?) A couple blocks away, you find older homes and small apartments that look dated but well-maintained.

There's a Park & Ride lot next to the metro stop that, oddly, also allows campers and has facilities.
Many buildings here have unusual combinations of tile patterns.
"Antes de entrar deixe sair" = Before entering, let out. Does not always work that way...

Carreira – Metro Stop #3

Carreira, translated as Career, runs right together with Venda Nova. It’s about a 6 minute walk from one stop to the other. Here there is more variety with a few very nice homes, modest older homes, some farms, and (of course) more apartments.

Old cork tree.
There was a quinta (farm) with several fields of kiwi vines. We were surprised by how much they grow like grape vines.

Baguim – Metro Stop #4

This stop feels a bit odd. The only thing really close to it is an older futebol field (pitch) with walls running around it that are totally covered in graffiti. There’s also plenty of parking available for commuters from the surrounding small communities. If we had ventured farther from the station, we’d have found more going on.
